Phone Give Away(s) by Google

So, I finally received my Nexus One in the mail. Google is giving away a free phone to every finalist (N. American Conquest)  in the Android Developer Challenge. In other news, Google is also giving away a free phone for developers that have an application with rating 3.5 or higher in the Android Market. So, I am expecting to receive another phone in the mail anytime soon. It’s either going to be the Nexus One or the Droid by Motorola.

Anyhow, the Nexus One works great! The speed is amazing. It replaces the free HTC Tattoo that I received a while ago to port Age of Conquest to the smaller screen size. The Tattoo was quite a disappointment. It “runs” very slow. The touch screen isn’t working very well; to get things moving, you had to press down really hard.

If I indeed get another free Nexus One, what should I do with the 2nd phone?

  1. I didn’t know N. American Conquest was a finalist, sweet.

  2. The N. American Conquest made it to the final round! I thought I mentioned it on the forums? Here is the list with all the finalists:

  3. I remember one did, I thought it was Europe though.

  4. I had Europe already in the Android Market, so I had to come up with something “new”.

  5. I recall you mentioning in the forum that the North America map made it into the finals. I don’t recall reading how it did in the finals unless the finals are still going on.

You could give the 2nd phone to the scenario maker of North America? lol ;-)

Here’s an idea. The 2nd phone could be given as the prize in the 1st version 3 tourney game. That is when version 3 goes online for everyone.

  6. Nah the winners have been chosen. I was looking at them last night.

That’s something I was wondering. Did it win before or after I added scenarios to it?

Yep, that’s what I was thinking, would go along well being that the game will be playable on a computer and one of them.

  7. I think it just had the original scenarios.

Actually, for the first tournament it would be a great idea to have some fancy prize! Although, it might be too far in the future to wait to give away the phone. Also, so far I didn’t receive anything yet!

  8. A fancy prize to kick off the first version 3 tournament is a neat idea. You’re right, the phone may not be the best idea for the prize given the tourney date. Plus age range of the players may need to be considered when awarding a prize. Hopefully another great prize can be found by the time of the tourney date.

  9. Curious, have you received the phone yet and have you decided on what to do with it?

  10. Actually yes, I received the Droid phone. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take a Sim Card and only works for Verizon. I am currently using it for development.

I figured I will give away a nice tournament prize for the first AoC III tournament.
